The Austin Peay State University (APSU) women's basketball team will host the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros in the first round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) on Thursday at 6:00pm in Clarksville, Tennessee. This will be APSU's first-ever appearance in the WNIT and their first postseason tournament since the 2022 Women's Basketball Invitational.
Why it matters
The Governors are looking to build on their strong ASUN Tournament run, where they reached the championship game for the first time since 2010. A win over UTRGV would advance APSU to the second round of the WNIT, providing valuable postseason experience for the program.
The details
APSU (19-13, 8-10 ASUN) finished eighth in the ASUN regular season but made a surprising run to the tournament finals, defeating #1 seed Eastern Kentucky and Stetson along the way. UTRGV (20-13, 16-6 SLC) finished fourth in the Southland Conference regular season and reached the semifinals of their conference tournament. The Vaqueros are led by Jalayah Ingram's 16.8 points per game and Charlotte O'Keefe's 14.0 rebounds per game.
- The WNIT first round game will tip off on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 6:00pm.
- If APSU wins, they will advance to the second round of the WNIT on March 22-24, 2026.

The Governors' WNIT appearance represents a significant milestone for the program, providing them with valuable postseason experience as they look to build on their recent ASUN Tournament success and establish themselves as a consistent contender in the years to come.
