APSU Softball Hosts Governors Classic at Cathi Maynard Park this Weekend

The Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team is set to host the three-day Governors Classic at Cathi Maynard Park this weekend. The Governors, who are 7-8 on the season, will face off against Stonehill, Southern Indiana, Central Michigan, and Ohio over the course of the tournament.
Why it matters
The Governors Classic provides APSU with an opportunity to build momentum heading into conference play. The team is led by eighth-year head coach Kassie Stanfill, the all-time winningest coach in program history, and features several key returning players including ASUN Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Brie Howard and Preseason All-ASUN selection Kiley Hinton.
The details
APSU will open the tournament on Friday with games against Stonehill and Southern Indiana. On Saturday, the Governors will take on Mid-American Conference foes Central Michigan and Ohio. The event will conclude on Sunday with a matchup against Stonehill. The Governors are coming off a 2025 season in which they tied the program record with 39 wins and secured a record 14 ASUN victories.
- The Governors Classic will take place from Friday, February 28 to Sunday, March 1, 2026.

Kassie Stanfill
The eighth-year head coach of the APSU softball team and the all-time winningest coach in program history.
Brie Howard
The ASUN Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and a Preseason All-ASUN Team selection. Howard is a junior outfielder who finished the 2025 season with 38 runs, 56 hits, 3 triples, 93 total bases, a .354 batting average, and a .440 on-base percentage.
Kiley Hinton
A preseason all-conference selection and infielder for the Governors. Hinton started 54 of 55 games at second base in 2025, leading the team with 13 doubles and 122 assists while posting a .988 fielding percentage.

The Governors will remain at home following the Governors Classic to host the three-day Cathi Maynard Invitational from March 6-8.
