The Department of Veterans Affairs has deployed more than 700 in-home virtual reality (VR) mental wellness kits across the country, providing veterans with clinically validated, non-pharmacological tools to help self-manage stress as part of a healthy lifestyle. The initiative is supported by Healium, SoldierPoint, and VA Immersive, and also includes the Honor Everywhere virtual tour program that allows veterans to virtually visit memorials and other remembrance sites.

Why it matters

Veterans face disproportionately high rates of stress-related challenges, including PTSD, insomnia, anxiety, and hyperarousal. This program aims to deliver innovative, non-traditional mental health solutions directly to veterans' homes, expanding access to care beyond traditional clinical settings.

The details

Each VR kit includes Healium, a clinically validated platform that helps users self-regulate stress and anxiety through immersive, nature-based virtual experiences. The kits also feature Honor Everywhere, a virtual tour program that allows veterans to virtually visit memorials and other remembrance sites, including the World War II Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Memorial, and Women's Memorial.

  • The VA initiative was launched in 2026.
