FHS Seniors Get Hands-On Look at South Dakota Government

A group of high school seniors from Faith, South Dakota recently had the opportunity to travel to the state capital of Pierre and get an inside look at how the South Dakota government operates. The students attended a legislative committee meeting, met with Governor Larry Rhoden, visited the Secretary of State's office, and observed the state legislature in action.

The details
The senior government class from Faith High School spent a day in Pierre, the capital of South Dakota. They began by attending a legislative committee meeting, where they observed testimony from both supporters and opponents of proposed legislation. The students then met with Governor Larry Rhoden, took a photo with him, and discussed state government and the legislative process. Next, they visited the Secretary of State's office to learn about its responsibilities. After lunch, the students met with two state government employees, Jana Hunt and Sam Marty, to further discuss public service careers. The day concluded with the students observing the South Dakota House and Senate in session.
