A ceremony remembering the lives lost to gun violence is slated to take place in Greenville, South Carolina on Friday evening. The Sixth Annual 'Fallen Angels' Survivors Event, hosted by gun violence survivor and advocate Darlene Ham, will honor victims, bring families and survivors together, and send a message that gun violence victims matter.
Why it matters
Gun violence continues to be a major issue in South Carolina, with nearly 500 lives lost on average each year. Events like the 'Fallen Angels' ceremony aim to raise awareness, provide support for victims' families and survivors, and advocate for solutions to address this public health crisis.
The details
The event will take place at Summit Upstate Church on Rutherford Road at 6:30pm on Friday. Darlene Ham will read the names of over 500 people killed in shootings across the region in the last eight months, and a bell will ring after each name is called, similar to 9-11 remembrance events. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect and support one another, with Ham offering to provide food and a listening ear to those in need.

“The most important thing for me is for people to understand they're not alone. We're together, we really are. And we do whatever we can to help each other. I'll show up on your doorstep at [2:00am] if you need me to be there to listen to you. I'm going to bring you food. If you have a day, you can't cook, [and] you can't function.”
