The Mt. Hope High School boys basketball team claimed its second straight championship, this time in Division II, with a 67-56 victory over Burrillville. Sophomore forward Bam Adams led the way for the Huskies with 20 points, including a key jumper late in the game that sealed the win. Mt. Hope also got a strong performance from senior center Jack Thompson, who scored 19 points.
Why it matters
Mt. Hope's championship win showcases the program's continued success, as the Huskies have now won four titles since 2018-19. The victory also denied Burrillville, a Cinderella team that upset several higher seeds to reach the final, its first title since 1988-89.
The details
Mt. Hope built a 43-28 lead late in the third quarter thanks to an 11-0 run sparked by a 3-pointer from Ben Peters and a spinning layup from Thompson. Burrillville made a late push to close the gap to 54-48, but Adams hit a key jumper to push the lead back to 60-53 with 1:44 left. The Huskies then sealed the win at the free throw line.
