The New York Yankees have acquired right-handed pitcher Angel Chivilli from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for first base prospect T.J. Rumfield. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment.
Why it matters
The trade adds a hard-throwing reliever with upside to the Yankees' bullpen, while the Rockies acquire a first base prospect who could factor into their plans at the position this spring. Both teams are looking to improve their rosters ahead of the upcoming season.
The details
Chivilli, 23, has posted a 6.18 ERA with 71 strikeouts, 33 walks and 20 home runs allowed over 90.1 innings out of Colorado's bullpen over the past two seasons. However, he generates a strong whiff rate on his offspeed and breaking pitches, suggesting he may have untapped potential away from the hitter-friendly Coors Field. Rumfield, 25, slashed .285/.378/.447 with 16 home runs and 31 doubles over 138 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season. He was the Yankees' No. 22 prospect at the end of the year.
- The trade was announced on January 28, 2026.
