Martin Necas scored twice and Scott Wedgewood made 30 saves as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 on the road. The Avalanche are now on a three-game winning streak and have earned points in four straight games, maintaining their lead atop the NHL standings. Wedgewood earned his 26th win of the season, while Necas set new personal highs in goals (34) and points (88) through 67 games played.
Why it matters
The Avalanche continue to assert their dominance as the NHL's top team, while the loss drops the Penguins into third place in the Metropolitan Division. This game showcases Colorado's depth and scoring prowess, as well as their strong special teams play in shutting down Pittsburgh's power play.
