The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is set to welcome visitors to the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh next month with a unique holographic installation at the city's international airport. The installation, developed by local creative agency Joe Zeff Design, will feature life-size holograms of three PSO musicians performing around the clock from March 24 to April 30. The goal is to showcase Pittsburgh's culture, creativity, and cutting-edge technology to the hundreds of thousands of travelers expected to pass through the airport during the draft.
Why it matters
This innovative holographic installation is part of a broader effort to showcase Pittsburgh's transformation from a region known for football and steel into a hub for technology and innovation. By blending art and technology, the PSO aims to create a memorable first impression for visitors and encourage them to experience the orchestra's live performances at Heinz Hall during their stay.
The details
The holographic installation will feature Assistant Concertmaster Dylan Naroff, as well as PSO musicians Doug Rosenthal and Rhian Kenny, performing on violin, trombone, and flute, respectively. Travelers will be able to scan a QR code to purchase tickets to see the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra live at Heinz Hall. The installation is housed in a nearly seven-foot-tall, 400-pound display in the Airside Center Core of the airport, accessible to both arriving and departing travelers.
- The installation officially launches at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
- The holograms will perform around the clock at Pittsburgh International Airport through April 30, 2026.
