The Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County has approved a $6.2 million expenditure to begin replacing seats in the east upper deck of Acrisure Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The full project will replace 58,719 of the stadium's 68,400 seats by 2028 at a total cost of $17.8 million.

Why it matters

The seat replacement project is part of a broader set of upgrades to Acrisure Stadium ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft being held in Pittsburgh. The aging stadium, which opened in 2001, has faced issues with deteriorating seats, and the upgrades aim to improve the fan experience and address safety concerns.

The first phase of the seat replacement project will replace 22,236 seats in the North Shore stadium over the next two years. Maine-based Hussey Seating Company will manufacture the new seats, which will come with a 10-year warranty. Other recent upgrades to Acrisure Stadium include a new outdoor football field, improved Wi-Fi, new videoboards, expanded food and beverage options, and a new lounge called the 1933 Club.
