The Stoop Pigeon, an upcoming women's sports hub, is set to open this June in time for the FIFA World Cup. The 2,500 square-foot space will serve as a sports bar, cafe, co-working area, and podcasting studio, with a focus on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for the local community.
Why it matters
The Stoop Pigeon is an important addition to Philadelphia's Gayborhood, providing a centralized space for the growing women's sports community. It aims to build on the success of the Watch Party PHL group, which has hosted events at various venues throughout the city, by creating a permanent home that can host diverse and inclusive programming.
The details
The Stoop Pigeon is a project of Watch Party PHL, a community of women's sports fans. The group signed a five-year lease for the space, which used to be a Starbucks and sushi restaurant. From 7 a.m. to midnight, the space will serve as a sports bar, cafe, kitchen, co-working space, and podcasting area, with food available from a ventless kitchen and brunch service on weekends. The Stoop Pigeon will also feature beverages from local businesses, including Dock Street Brewery, Two Locals Brewing, and Sterling Pig Brewery.

What they’re saying
“We really wanted to make it easily accessible from all parts of the city, and I think being on Broad Street is good for that.”
— Jen Leary, Co-founder of Watch Party PHL and the Stoop Pigeon (epgn.com)
“Philly is a small community, so we want to do everything we can to keep supporting the people who have supported us. [We want] to continue to have that partnership with them in any way that we can, but it is going to be really nice to have our own space that we can control.”
— Jen Leary, Co-founder of Watch Party PHL and the Stoop Pigeon (epgn.com)
“[Millenium Coffee] was everyone's go-to. We wanted to create a community like that — a cafe and co-working [space] during the weekdays, and then we transition into this total watch hub at night with upscale bar food, premium viewing spaces, and our sound system is going to be really high tech. We want to offer people a place to relax, chill out and be able to eat good food and watch women's sports.”
— Lori Albright, Co-founder of the Stoop Pigeon (epgn.com)
“Growing up in the '80s and being gay, we had to always find places, and we had to always stand up for one another. And that's what [the Stoop Pigeon] is built on. We hope that we can provide a place for people to come, celebrate one another, feel safe and enjoy each other.”
— Lori Albright, Co-founder of the Stoop Pigeon (epgn.com)
“We're not going to do anything different at the Stoop. We're going to work hard to make sure that we're intentional about bringing the same types of people in there. Of course, we're going to have security cameras. Our staff is going to be very, very diverse. I want every single person that comes in to see someone that they identify with, and Lori and I and our two other partners are going to be there, constantly making sure that everyone is comfortable.”
