Damilola Aduloju, 44, and Monday Igbinomwanhia, 36, have been charged following the January death of their one-month-old child. Aduloju faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of children, while Igbinomwanhia faces charges of endangering the welfare of children. Police say the infant died from multiple traumatic injuries due to compressive loading, and that Aduloju had a blood alcohol content of 0.199 at the time.

Why it matters

This tragic case highlights the dangers of alcohol abuse and co-sleeping with infants, as well as the importance of holding parents accountable for the safety and wellbeing of their children. It also raises questions about the support systems available for parents struggling with substance abuse issues.

The details

According to police, on January 12th they responded to a report of a one-month-old child in cardiac arrest at an apartment on Santanna Drive. The child was pronounced dead at the scene. Police noticed an alcohol smell on Aduloju, and a test showed her blood alcohol content was 0.199. An autopsy determined the infant died from multiple traumatic injuries due to compressive loading. Aduloju told police she fell asleep while feeding the baby and co-slept with the child. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Aduloju and her other two children throwing objects in the dumpster the morning the infant died. Igbinomwanhia was aware that Aduloju had a history of alcohol abuse while caring for her children.
