PennLive honors Pennsylvania community Black leaders as 'Trailblazers and Trendsetters'

The annual feature highlights the accomplishments of diverse leaders across the state.

For the fifth year, PennLive has marked Black History Month by honoring some of Pennsylvania's outstanding 'Trailblazers and Trendsetters' in the Harrisburg area and beyond. The honorees range in age from their twenties to their seventies and their accomplishments span a wide range of fields, including art, history, education, entrepreneurship, public service, and more.

The 'Trailblazers and Trendsetters' feature shines a light on the positive impact that Black leaders are having in their communities across Pennsylvania. By highlighting their diverse accomplishments, the series aims to inspire others and showcase the breadth of talent and leadership within the state's Black community.

The details

The profiles were rolled out over the month of February and featured striking portraits by PennLive's award-winning photographer, Sean Simmers. The honorees include artists, historians, educators, entrepreneurs, vintners, restaurateurs, influencers, doctors, and public servants, all of whom have made significant contributions to their communities.
