The Hempfield boys and girls track teams got the season off to a strong start by winning the South Hills Classic on Saturday at Baldwin. The Hempfield boys won several individual events, including the 800 meters, 1,600 meters, 3,200 meters, 110 hurdles, high jump, javelin, and pole vault. The Hempfield girls also had multiple individual champions, winning the 800 meters, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, high jump, discus, pole vault, and shot put, as well as three relay events.

For the Hempfield boys, individual event winners included Isaiah Bittner (800 meters), Ryan Ewing (1,600 meters), Jonathan Stetchock (3,200 meters), Brayder Ser (110 hurdles, high jump), Xavier Smith (javelin), and Owen Fox (pole vault). The Hempfield boys also won the 3,200 relay. Other boys individual champions were Cody Miller of North Hills (100 meters), Javien Robinson of McKeesport (200 meters), Tory Anderson-Pearson of McKeesport (300 hurdles), Bruce Sutter of Beaver (400 meters), Jose Perez of West Mifflin (long jump), and Andrew Nowak of Upper St. Clair (discus). For the Hempfield girls, individual event winners were Chesnee Smith (800 meters), Madison Altman (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Mayla Brunazzi (high jump), Maddie Tulley (discus), Tessa Trageser (pole vault), and Jiana Patterson (shot put). The Hempfield girls also won the 400 relay, 1,600 relay, and 3,200 relay.
