The Brain Stormz win Battle of the Books
Fourth-grade team to represent Sisters in regional reading competition

A team of fourth graders from Sisters Elementary School, called The Brain Stormz, prevailed in a hard-fought championship battle with fifth graders to earn the right to represent Sisters in the regional Oregon Battle of the Books competition next month.
Why it matters
The Oregon Battle of the Books is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program that encourages students to read diverse literature, build collaboration skills, and develop academic confidence. The victory of the fourth-grade team from Sisters Elementary highlights the success of the program in fostering a love of reading and teamwork among local students.
The details
At the elementary school level, students read 16 selected books and form teams to compete in quiz-style "battles" where they answer detailed questions about the books. This year, 21 teams across grades 3-5 at Sisters Elementary participated, coached by Library Media Manager Laura Leis. In the final championship battle, The Brain Stormz team of fourth graders faced off against the fifth-grade team The Book Boys in an exciting assembly in front of the school.
- On Tuesday, February 24, the final two teams competed in the championship battle.
- The Brain Stormz team will go on to represent Sisters Elementary at the Regional OBOB Tournament in Prineville on Saturday, March 7.
- The winner of the regional tournament will then head to Chemeketa Community College in Salem on Saturday, April 11 for the 16th annual state finals.
