U.S. Representative Anna Paulina Luna, who chairs a task force on declassifying federal secrets, says the Trump administration plans to release government information relating to aliens and unidentified flying objects (UFOs). Luna promised "a lot of cool stuff" will be revealed, but added the government won't tell people what to make of the information.
Why it matters
A majority of Americans believe intelligent life may exist on other planets, according to a recent Pew Research survey. The potential release of classified UFO files has generated significant public interest.
The details
Speaking on a podcast, Luna said "there has been...instances of footage we cannot explain" and that as soon as the official declassification order is issued, she wants to hold a press conference to share the information. However, she cautioned the government won't provide a full admission or tell people what to believe about the findings.
- In February 2026, former President Donald Trump announced he would direct the Secretary of Defense to release government files on UFOs and extraterrestrial life.
- The domain aliens.gov was registered by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in March 2026, amid the renewed public interest in UFOs.

“Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters.”
