According to police, Kartzmark first came to their attention around 8:45 p.m. on March 28 when they received reports of a suspect armed with a large metal pole in a backyard on Southeast Equestrian Drive. At the same time, multiple 911 callers reported the suspect had broken windows at nearby homes. Officers found Kartzmark attempting to flee the scene and he allegedly ran through several yards and forced entry into at least one home before being confronted by a resident and arrested with assistance from the Portland Police Air Unit, police dogs, and drones.
