A house and an RV were completely destroyed by a fire on Saturday afternoon in unincorporated Washington County, Oregon, leaving five people without a home. Firefighters were called to the property on Southwest Hillsboro Highway/Highway 219, north of Northeast Mountain Top Road, after multiple 911 calls reported black smoke and flames. The four-story log house was engulfed in flames, with the fire threatening nearby trees, an RV, and other outbuildings.
Why it matters
Residential fires can have devastating impacts on families, causing significant property damage and displacement. This incident highlights the importance of fire safety and emergency preparedness, especially in rural areas where access to firefighting resources may be more limited.
The details
Arriving crews found the log house fully engulfed, with the fire threatening nearby trees, an RV, and other outbuildings. Neighbors told firefighters that all the people who lived in the house, along with their pets, were away from home at the time. Firefighters called a second alarm and closed the highway for several hours as they brought in water trucks and additional crews. Shortly after crews began fighting the fire, the cabin's roof collapsed. Eventually, firefighters were able to get the flames under control and stop the fire from spreading beyond the home and RV.
