The Oregon State University Extension Service, in partnership with the Josephine County Master Gardeners, is opening registration for its upcoming 'Seeds to Supper' course, a six-week program designed to help beginners grow their own food with confidence and minimal cost. The course will run from April 6 through May 11, offering weekly sessions each Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Options of Southern Oregon in Grants Pass.
Why it matters
With rising food costs continuing to impact households across the region, the ability to grow fresh produce at home has become more than a hobby for many. The 'Seeds to Supper' program provides an accessible way for community members to learn gardening skills and supplement their grocery bills while also reconnecting with the land.
The details
The course is led by certified Master Gardeners and covers the fundamentals of planting, growing, harvesting, and preparing fresh produce from small to medium-sized garden plots. Participants will receive a free gardening book, seeds, and additional supplies as available, and there is also a weekly raffle component to keep the experience engaging and interactive. By incorporating both classroom instruction and outdoor gardening space, the program allows participants to immediately apply what they learn.
