The Demand Project, a Tulsa-based advocacy organization that has been fighting for human trafficking victims for over two decades, is expanding its mission to help even more survivors. The organization is preparing to open a new facility focused on prevention and crisis recovery, with the community rallying around their cause.
Why it matters
The Demand Project's mission started over 20 years ago when the founders heard a devastating news story about a 2-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by her biological father and the crime was recorded and shared online. This fueled their mission to help victims of human trafficking, and the organization has grown to operate a 54-acre campus called Mount Arukah, helping girls ages 11 to 17. However, they have outgrown their current Tulsa office space, prompting the need for a new, larger facility.
The details
The new facility will focus on prevention and crisis recovery, addressing modern threats to children. It will include areas for forensic interviews, SANE exams, and a place for victims and survivors to rest and heal. The organization will also have emotional support animals, like a small dog named Levi, to provide comfort to trafficking victims. Community contractors are donating services to make the February 15th opening of the new facility possible.

What they’re saying
“The Demand Project is an answer to a problem that Jason and I heard about 22 years ago. We were living in Colorado and we heard a news story about a little girl, 2 years old, that was sexually assaulted by her biological dad and he recorded the crime and then he put it online for people to watch and thousands logged on.”
— Kristin Weis, CEO of The Demand Project
“We have to have a building in order to serve the most vulnerable and we have grown out of this space that we're in right now and we're growing into this next space.”
— Kristin Weis, CEO of The Demand Project
“A predator doesn't just go and stand on a corner at a school anymore. He is texting as someone else deceptively luring and grooming our children.”
— Kristin Weis, CEO of The Demand Project
What’s next
The new facility is scheduled to open on February 15, 2026.
The takeaway
