The Okmulgee Public Library is introducing a new Family Story-Time program that will be held every first and third Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the library's children's section. The program is designed to bring together elementary and middle school students, along with their families, for an immersive reading experience focused on chapter books.
Why it matters
The new Family Story-Time format goes beyond the traditional story hour, encouraging kids to stay engaged over multiple sessions as they follow along with a continuing chapter book. This approach is intended to help bridge the gap between picture books and more advanced reading, making it ideal for developing stronger reading comprehension skills in a shared, family-friendly environment.
The details
Each Family Story-Time event will begin with a storybook to get everyone settled in, followed by a reading from a chapter book that can continue over the course of one to four meetings. The relaxed, family-focused atmosphere is meant to make it easy for parents and siblings to attend together and connect not only with books, but with each other. Attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably and bring a floor pillow, though no food or drinks will be allowed during the program.
- The new Family Story-Time program will launch on the first and third Mondays at 6:30 p.m., beginning on April 7, 2026.
