Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic won the NBA scoring title for the 2025-26 season, averaging 33.5 points in 64 games. He finished more than two points ahead of second place as Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.1, while Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards came in third at 28.8.

Why it matters

This marks the second time Doncic has won the scoring title, as he also did so as a member of the Dallas Mavericks in 2023-24. There has now been five straight international players to win it after zero had do so previously.

The details

Doncic is coming off a stellar season with the Lakers in which he put up 7.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.6 steals to go along with his high scoring output while shooting 47.6% from the field and 36.6% from 3-point range on a league-leading 10.8 attempts per game. Unfortunately, Doncic's season was cut short as he suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring strain a couple of weeks ago.

  • Doncic won the NBA scoring title for the 2025-26 season.
  • He also won the scoring title as a member of the Dallas Mavericks in 2023-24.

What they’re saying

“I'm not gonna share how long he's going to be over there, but I think he's in good spirits. I think he's, in my conversations with him, he's motivated to do everything possible. I know for him, it's hard for him not to be on a basketball court.”

What’s next

Doncic is applying for an Extraordinary Circumstance Challenge in order to qualify for NBA awards, as he missed two games to attend the birth of his daughter. If accepted, he will likely be First Team All-NBA for the sixth time in his career while also finishing top-five in MVP voting.

The takeaway

Doncic's second scoring title in three seasons, and the fifth straight international player to win the award, demonstrates his continued dominance as one of the NBA's elite scorers despite missing time due to injury.
