The NBA has suspended Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks for one game without pay after he received his 16th technical foul of the season. Per league rules, a player is automatically suspended for a game after reaching 16 technical fouls, with an additional one-game suspension for every two more technical fouls.
Why it matters
Technical fouls are a sign of on-court discipline issues, and repeated violations can hurt a team's performance and chemistry. Brooks' suspensions have become a recurring problem, and the Suns will now be without one of their key players for an upcoming game.
The details
Brooks was whistled for a personal foul and then a technical with 6:37 remaining in the second quarter of the Suns' 136-109 home loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. He will serve the suspension after the All-Star break on Feb. 19 when Phoenix visits the San Antonio Spurs.
