Strongsville High School's theatre department is set to perform the beloved Cole Porter musical 'Anything Goes' this spring. The show follows a lively love triangle aboard the luxury liner S.S. American, with young broker Billy Crocker trying to win the heart of heiress Hope Harcourt despite her engagement to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. With the help of nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and eccentric gangster 'Moonface' Martin, Billy embarks on a series of comical antics to derail the engagement and steer true love on course.
Why it matters
The production allows Strongsville High School students to showcase their talents, particularly in tap dancing after last year's successful show choir routine. The classic Cole Porter score and zany characters also provide an entertaining challenge for the student cast and crew.
The details
Drama/theatre teacher and director Jeremy Jenkins selected 'Anything Goes' in part to highlight the tap dancing skills of the school's show choir students. The fast-paced musical features recognizable hits like 'It's De-Lovely,' 'Friendship,' 'You're the Top,' and 'I Get a Kick Out of You.' The large cast includes 18 student actors, over 20 student crew members, and 20 student musicians.
