The National Weather Service has confirmed that three tornadoes touched down in Ohio's Miami Valley during severe storms on Wednesday. Two of the tornadoes were in Shelby County, with estimated peak winds of 80 mph, while the third formed near St. Johns and Uniopolis in Auglaize County, damaging several outbuildings.
Why it matters
Tornadoes, even relatively weak EF0 twisters, can cause significant property damage and pose a threat to public safety. This serves as a reminder of the importance of severe weather preparedness and the need for continued monitoring and response efforts by local authorities.
The details
According to the National Weather Service, the first tornado touched down near Anna and Botkins, traveling nearly two miles and reaching 60 yards wide. The second Shelby County tornado tore through just north of Anna, overturning an RV and two semi-trailers, as well as damaging a large outbuilding.
