Students at Independence Primary School in Ohio took inspiration from the nation's national parks for their annual art show, creating a 20-foot mural celebrating the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The event featured artwork from each grade level exploring different parks, as well as interactive activities for families to engage with the show.

Why it matters

The art show allowed students to make a meaningful local connection to the national park in their own community, sparking appreciation and exploration of the natural wonders on their doorstep. The donated mural will also serve as a lasting gift from the school to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

The details

Each grade level at Independence Primary studied a different national park and created artwork inspired by its landscapes, wildlife, colors, and natural features. The highlight of the show was a special five-panel mural more than 20 feet long, featuring 16 smaller artworks depicting the Cuyahoga Valley National Park's historic canal, waterfalls, train system, forests, and local wildlife.

  • The annual art show took place last month.
  • This is the 15th year of the art show and the creation of the fourth-grade mural.
