Educator of Excellence Honored in Independence

Gretchen Obrovac, a music and vocal teacher at Independence High School, has been named the 2026 Educator of Excellence by the Independence High School Alumni Association. Obrovac, an honors graduate of the high school herself, was recognized for her work in both the middle and high schools, where she collaborates with students to help them grow within the music world.

Obrovac was honored earlier this month for her work in both the middle and high schools. As a high school student, she was involved in various extracurricular activities, including vocal, band, musicals, volleyball, Bio Society, Spectator, and Prom Committee. Her former teachers included Ken Gunlicks, Eric Wells, and Al Bogigian. Nominators praised Obrovac for her ability to bring out the best in her students, collaborating with them on their musical interests and guiding them through pivotal years of their lives.
