Baylor is looking to add a dynamic guard to its backcourt and has begun recruiting 5-star guard King Gibson from the 2027 class. Gibson is the 6th overall player in the Rivals 2027 rankings and is known for his versatile game, including his ability to run the offense, shoot, score, defend, and slash to the basket. Baylor has started building a relationship with Gibson, who says he likes the Bears' up-tempo style of play that allows their guards to 'boogie'.
Why it matters
Baylor struggled with guard play last season, and the addition of a talent like King Gibson could help solve those issues and put the Bears in a better position to compete at the highest level. Gibson is a highly sought-after recruit, so Baylor will have to work hard to land his commitment.
The details
Gibson recently met with Jamie Shaw of On3 and discussed the schools that are recruiting him, including Baylor and Michigan. He has only taken unofficial visits to Michigan and NC State so far, but said Baylor has started building a relationship with him and he likes their up-tempo style of play. Transparency and fit will be key factors in Gibson's decision, as he wants to play for a coach who will be honest with him about what he needs to do to reach his goals.

What they’re saying
“I'm a versatile player, you know, I can do a lot of things on the floor. I can run the offense, shoot, score the ball, defend, I'm a slasher. I can just do a lot of things on the floor. My shooting is getting a lot better; I'm shooting it more confidently and consistently this year.”

“It's a new relationship with them. I just started talking with them, but they're pretty cool. They call me a lot, and we're just getting to know each other. I've been watching a little bit of their games, and they let their guards boogie, so I like that.”
— King Gibson
What’s next
Baylor will need to continue building a strong relationship with King Gibson and convince him that their program is the best fit for his skills and goals.
The takeaway
Baylor's struggles with guard play last season have prompted the team to aggressively recruit 5-star guard King Gibson, a versatile and talented player who could help solve their backcourt issues. Landing Gibson would be a major coup for the Bears as they look to return to the top of the college basketball landscape.
