Browns guard Wyatt Teller has announced on social media that he will not be returning to Cleveland next season. Teller, who was traded to the Browns in 2019 after playing his rookie year in Buffalo, penned a goodbye letter to Browns fans, expressing his gratitude for the city and its loyal fanbase.
Why it matters
Teller is among the longtime Browns players that will be leaving the team as the organization overhauls its offense under new head coach Todd Monken. The Browns have a lot of work to do to improve an offense that ranked 31st in passing yards and points per game as well as last in PFF's pass blocking grades.
The details
In his goodbye letter, Teller wrote about how much Cleveland has meant to him and his family, including proposing to his wife Carly on the 50-yard line at the stadium, buying their first home in the city, and welcoming their two children. Teller expressed his gratitude for the support and love he has received from Browns fans over the past seven years, and while he is excited for the future, he said Cleveland will always have a special place in their hearts.

What they’re saying
“I wish things were different and this is hard to put into words. When Buffalo traded me to Cleveland seven years ago, I never could have imagined how much this city would mean to me. Ultimately, the Browns took a chance on me that changed the trajectory of my life forever.”

“To the most loyal fans in the NFL, I hope y'all know that you have made a mark on my family's life forever. I proposed to Carly on the 50 yard line at the stadium, bought our first home here, and proudly welcomed both of our babies to the world in Cleveland.”

What’s next
The Browns will begin roster improvements by letting veterans such as Teller head to free agency this offseason as they look to overhaul their offense under new head coach Todd Monken.
The takeaway
Teller's heartfelt goodbye to Cleveland highlights the strong connections players can build with a city and fanbase, even as the business of the NFL often requires them to move on to new teams. The Browns now face the challenge of replacing key veteran leaders like Teller as they work to rebuild their offense for the future.
