Class of 2027 Rickards (Florida) athlete Davion Crumitie has decommitted from the Syracuse football program, telling Rivals he wants to "open back up and look at all of my options" after originally committing in September. Crumitie now holds offers from several other schools including Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Kentucky as he explores new opportunities.
Why it matters
Syracuse is losing a talented Florida athlete who could have contributed on both offense and defense. Crumitie's decommitment is a setback for the Orange, who currently have the 5th-ranked 2027 recruiting class nationally and the top class in the ACC.
The details
Crumitie, a three-star recruit, said he's been thinking about decommitting "for a while" as he wants to "find the best spot" for himself. He praised Syracuse assistant coach Fran Brown but feels he needs to explore all his options. Since his original commitment, Crumitie has picked up offers from several other Power 5 programs including Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and more.
- Crumitie committed to Syracuse in September 2025.
- Crumitie announced his decommitment on February 4, 2026.
The players
Davion Crumitie
A three-star Class of 2027 athlete from Rickards High School in Florida who originally committed to Syracuse football in September 2025 but has now decommitted to explore other options.
Fran Brown
An assistant coach for the Syracuse football program who was heavily involved in recruiting Crumitie to the Orange.
What they’re saying
“I've been thinking about it for a while. The reason I decommitted was just wanting to open back up and look at all of my options. I want to see different places.”
— Davion Crumitie (Rivals)
“(Fran) Brown is one of the best in college football and I have all love for him. But I want to find the best spot for me.”
— Davion Crumitie (Rivals)
The takeaway
Crumitie's decommitment is a blow to Syracuse's highly-ranked 2027 recruiting class, as the versatile Florida athlete would have been a valuable addition to the Orange's roster. However, Crumitie's desire to explore all his options is understandable, and Syracuse will now have to work to either regain his commitment or find another top talent to fill his spot.
