Seaford Offers Free Heart Screenings for Teens and Young Adults

Nearly 200 participants received cardiac exams and CPR training at community event.

Published on Feb. 12, 2026

Nearly 200 teenagers and young adults received free cardiac exams, including EKGs and echocardiograms, at a Heart Screen New York community event held at Seaford Middle School. The screening was a partnership between the Seaford School District, Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation, and Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation, with over 146 volunteers providing medical services and CPR training.

Why it matters

The event aimed to provide early detection of potential heart issues among young people, allowing them to be referred to specialists for treatment. Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in young athletes, making these types of screenings crucial for identifying and addressing underlying conditions.

The details

After checking in and submitting a heart history form, participants underwent a series of exams including blood pressure checks, height and weight measurements, EKGs, and analysis of heart sounds. If further evaluation was needed, they received echocardiograms. Results were discussed with cardiologists, and participants also learned CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator.

  • The screening event took place on February 7, 2026.
  • The Seaford School District and the two foundations have hosted similar heart screening events in the past, including one in 2015.
