New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James has appointed Marc A. Barbera, 52, of Oneonta, as the 35th Troop Commander of Troop D. Barbera, a 26-year veteran of the state police, has held various leadership roles over the years, including serving as a station commander, administrative captain, and most recently as a captain at several different troop locations. Barbera's appointment as Troop D Commander became effective on February 26, 2026, replacing Kevin M. Reilly who was promoted to staff inspector.

He was promoted to lieutenant in 2015 and captain in 2020, serving in various assignments including at Troop D, Troop C Headquarters, and SP Binghamton and SP Oneonta.
