NYC Expands EV Fast Charging Network in Queens

New stations in Flushing and other neighborhoods aim to boost electric vehicle adoption among working drivers.

New York City has opened a new network of electric vehicle fast charging stations in Queens, with eight high-speed chargers now available at a municipal lot in downtown Flushing. This is the first of 10 planned stations across the borough, part of a partnership between the NYC Department of Transportation and the New York Power Authority to expand affordable and accessible EV charging infrastructure, especially in communities with many taxi and rideshare drivers.

Why it matters

The new fast charging hubs are a key part of New York City's efforts to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, providing the charging access needed to encourage more drivers, especially those in the for-hire vehicle industry, to transition to electric vehicles and reduce transportation-related pollution.

The details

The new Flushing charging station features eight 360kW chargers capable of providing an 80% charge in 10-15 minutes. Customers will not be subject to any additional parking fees. The stations are being sited in neighborhoods with limited existing charging options and high concentrations of Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) licensed drivers who rely on their vehicles for their livelihoods.

  • The Flushing station opened on April 1, 2026.
  • Two additional stations in Bayside and Rosedale are expected to come online in the next few weeks.
  • A total of 66 EVolve NY fast chargers will be available at 10 NYC DOT municipal parking facilities across Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx by early 2027.

What they’re saying

“Clean energy infrastructure is the foundation of our City's green future. We're bringing safe charging hubs where they're needed the most: the neighborhoods our for-hire drivers call home. This Flushing hub will deliver affordability and sustainability, and I look forward to the continued expansion of our green energy network across the city.”

— Zohran Kwame Mamdani, Mayor of New York City

“Building EV chargers in neighborhoods where many working drivers live will make it easier to encourage a switch to electric vehicles and help for-hire vehicle drivers spend more time fulfilling rides, not searching for a charge.”

— Mike Flynn, NYC DOT Commissioner

“Equitable access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure ensures that working-class New Yorkers can participate in the city's clean transportation future, making the shift to electric vehicles both accessible and fair while supporting our broader climate commitments.”

— Louise Yeung, New York City Chief Climate Officer
