The John D. Calandra Italian American Institute at the City University of New York (CUNY) is hosting a four-day seminar from May 26-29, 2026 titled 'Italian Legal Terminology: A Journey through the Most Common and Frequently Used Italian Legal Terms.' The seminar aims to provide US legal professionals with the linguistic tools necessary to understand Italian legal terminology, as they increasingly encounter Italian clients, documents, or cases in their practice.
Why it matters
The growing interconnectedness of global commerce and personal affairs is driving the need for US lawyers to navigate international legal systems. This seminar directly addresses this need by equipping professionals with the knowledge to better serve clients involved in Italian legal matters, such as cross-border transactions, commercial disputes, and international estate planning.
The details
The seminar's curriculum is structured around four core areas: understanding the Italian legal system and key legal professions, successions and testaments, contracts and businesses, and companies and corporations. The program is led by Alessandro Gaglione, an attorney qualified to practice in Italy, England and Wales, as well as a notary public. His experience working with the Italian community in the UK provides valuable insight into the practical challenges faced by legal professionals dealing with Italian law.
- The seminar will take place from May 26-29, 2026.
