The details
Springsteen, a last-minute addition, performed his co-written hit "Because the Night" with Smith, while Stipe covered "My Blakean Year" from her 2004 album "Trampin'". Other performers included Karen O, Maggie Rogers, Johnny Depp, Glen Hansard, Alison Mosshart of The Kills, Susanna Hoffs, Ben Harper, and Matt Berninger of The National. Smith and her band closed out the night with "Peaceable Kingdom", and were joined by all the artists for a rendition of her classic "People Have the Power".
