The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has launched a new "Take the Train to the Game" promotion that offers Mets fans discounted tickets for taking the LIRR or subway to Citi Field for home games. The promotion provides $5 off certain LIRR tickets purchased through the TrainTime app on gamedays, as well as discounted fares for subway and bus riders. The MTA is also expanding ferry and shuttle services to improve transportation options for fans.

Why it matters

With ongoing construction in the area causing parking concerns at Citi Field, the MTA's partnership with the Mets aims to encourage more fans to use public transportation to get to games. The discounted fares and expanded transit services make it more affordable and convenient for fans to attend Mets home games without having to drive.

The details

The "Take the Train to the Game" promotion applies to LIRR day passes or CityTicket day passes to Mets-Willets Point purchased through the TrainTime app. For Manhattan commuters, the discounted weekday fare goes from $14.50 to $9.50, while the weekend fare drops from $10.50 to $5.50. Long Island fans can also get discounts, with a Mineola area pass going from $24.25 to $19.25 on weekdays and $20 to $15 on weekends. From Hicksville, the pass cost goes from $27.50 to $22.50 on weekdays and $22.50 to $17.50 on weekends.

  • The Mets' home opener is on Thursday, March 28, 2026.
