IWPG Launches Global 'PLACE' Campaign for Women-Led Peace

The campaign focuses on documenting and connecting the everyday peacebuilding efforts of women globally.

Published on Mar. 9, 2026

The International Women's Peace Group (IWPG) hosted a 'Peace Talk' forum in New York City to mark the global debut of its newest initiative, the PLACE Campaign. 'PLACE,' which stands for 'Peace as Lived And Connected Experience,' is a pioneering 'peace narrative archiving' project that aims to structurally document and connect the everyday peacebuilding efforts of women around the world.

Why it matters

The PLACE Campaign seeks to redefine peacebuilding by highlighting the crucial but often overlooked contributions of women. By archiving and sharing these lived experiences of peace, IWPG hopes to shift peace from an abstract concept to a tangible cultural movement driven by women's leadership.

The details

The 'Peace Talk' forum in New York City was attended by 50 local IWPG members and featured a keynote address by IWPG Chairwoman Na Young Jeon. The event was part of IWPG's extensive schedule during the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) in New York, which also includes a peace forum at Columbia University and an official UN CSW Side Event.

What they’re saying

“Peace is not a gift bestowed upon us from the outside; it is a capability that begins within each individual. When women archive and share these lived experiences, peace shifts from an abstract concept to a tangible cultural movement.”

— Na Young Jeon, Chairwoman, International Women's Peace Group (IWPG)

“In the competitive corporate landscape of New York, PLACE helped me realize that peace starts within my own sphere. I now see my role as a 'mediator' who can foster harmony in a male-dominated professional setting.”

What’s next

IWPG plans to continue its PLACE Campaign activities during the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), including a peace forum at Columbia University and an official UN CSW Side Event.

The takeaway

The PLACE Campaign represents a shift in how we approach peacebuilding, moving away from top-down, abstract concepts and towards the lived experiences and grassroots efforts of women around the world. By archiving and sharing these stories, IWPG aims to empower women as the driving force behind a sustainable peace movement.
