Robinhood Markets has launched Robinhood Ventures Fund I (RVI), a $1 billion closed-end fund that will give retail investors access to invest in a portfolio of high-growth private "Frontier Companies" operating at the forefront of their industries. The fund, which has filed to go public on the NYSE, removes many of the traditional barriers that have kept everyday investors out of private markets, including no accreditation requirements, investment minimums, or performance fees.
Why it matters
This initiative by Robinhood represents a major step in democratizing access to private markets, which have historically been dominated by institutional investors and the ultra-wealthy. By making private company investing more accessible to the masses, Robinhood aims to correct a longstanding inequity in finance and give regular investors a seat at the table alongside institutions.
The details
RVI will hold a concentrated portfolio of private "Frontier Companies" including Airwallex, Boom Supersonic, Databricks, Mercor, Oura, Ramp, and Revolut, with plans to add more over time including an agreement to purchase Stripe shares after its IPO. The fund may also use modest leverage to enhance returns. Robinhood is selling 5 million of its own RVI shares as part of the $1 billion offering, with the remaining 35 million shares issued by the fund itself. Robinhood customers can already submit requests for IPO shares directly in the app, and the fund is expected to begin trading on the NYSE in late February 2026.
