Cashiers Du Cinéma Editors Bring Movie Theater Worker Stories to BAM

The comic zine celebrates cinema workers with a 10-film series at the Brooklyn venue.

Published on Feb. 13, 2026

Cashiers Du Cinéma, a comic zine that examines the lives of movie theater employees, has programmed a new ten-film series kicking off at BAM this Friday. The series includes arthouse classics like Goodbye, Dragon Inn and Cinema Paradiso, as well as oddities like the '80s slasher Blood Theater and The Projectionist, which features Rodney Dangerfield's debut film performance.

Why it matters

Since launching in 2023, Cashiers Du Cinéma has traced the often-banal and oddly beautiful lives of ushers, concession workers, and projectionists, giving a voice to the unsung heroes of the cinema experience. The upcoming BAM series aims to celebrate these cinema workers and sneak comics into a film institution, bridging the gap between the two creative communities.

The details

Editors David Cardoza and Dan Welch, who met while working at Film at Lincoln Center in 2018, have filled the series with a diverse array of films that explore the realities of working in a movie theater. In addition to the screenings, the series will feature comics readings and the sale of the latest Cashiers Du Cinéma zine in the BAM lobby.

  • The Cashiers Du Cinéma series will run at BAM Cinema from February 13-19, 2026.
  • The latest issue of the Cashiers Du Cinéma zine was recently released.
