Published on Feb. 11, 2026

Verra Mobility Corporation has finalized a new five-year, $998 million contract with the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) to continue managing the city's automated enforcement camera programs, including red-light, speed, and bus lane enforcement systems. The contract includes an option to extend for an additional five-year term and will support the expansion of the red-light safety camera program to 600 signalized intersections, as well as the growth of the automated bus lane enforcement program.

Why it matters

This contract represents a significant investment in traffic safety initiatives across New York City, building on the success of the existing enforcement programs. The expansion of red-light and bus lane cameras is expected to contribute to the city's ongoing efforts to reduce pedestrian fatalities and improve overall road safety for all users.

The details

Under the new contract, the number of red-light camera locations will increase from just 150 to 600 signalized intersections, following recent legislation to expand the program. In addition, Verra Mobility will upgrade legacy equipment and support the growth of the city's automated bus lane enforcement program. The contract also includes commitments to 33% utilization of minority- and women-owned business enterprises, community partnerships, and public education components.

  • The new contract will be effective from January 1, 2026.
