The guest designer of the New York Botanical Garden's 2026 Orchid Show, known only as Mr. Flower Fantastic, is creating an immersive 'Concrete Jungle' exhibition that brings a tropical twist to familiar New York City structures and objects. The self-taught artist, who preserves his anonymity with a respirator mask, has become known for his floral sculptures and installations that enliven urban landscapes with thousands of living orchids.
Why it matters
The Orchid Show is one of the New York Botanical Garden's most popular annual events, drawing diverse audiences to experience the beauty and variety of orchids. Mr. Flower Fantastic's unique approach, which blends urban imagery with lush floral displays, aims to attract a younger demographic and showcase how nature can be celebrated even in a concrete jungle.
The details
Mr. Flower Fantastic, whose real identity remains unknown, has created an immersive exhibition featuring familiar New York City structures and objects covered in cascading layers of pink, white, and fuchsia Phalaenopsis orchids. The exhibition includes a 'floralized' brownstone facade, a dumpster overflowing with blossoms, mock subway stops, and a flower-filled newsstand. The designer, who grew up in Jamaica, Queens and is influenced by his Jamaican heritage, has also incorporated elements like a sculpted New York City yellow cab surrounded by orchids.
- The Orchid Show: Mr. Flower Fantastic's Concrete Jungle opens on Saturday, February 8, 2026.
- The exhibition will run through April 26, 2026.

What they’re saying
“There's a sort of uncanny way that he enlivens the objects that we surround ourselves with. The things we collect, like sneakers, or the things we see every day, like a hydrant, a fire hydrant that's been opened up to cool off in the summertime. And he's got this really creative way of bringing those to life, using flowers.”
— Joanna L. Groarke, Vice President for Exhibitions and Programming, New York Botanical Garden (nytimes.com)
“Taxi!!! definitely got us on the radar of some different audiences. It drew a lot of the younger demographic.”
— Regina Forlenza, Assistant Director of Visitor Services, Queens Botanical Garden (nytimes.com)
“I don't consider myself an expert. I'm just a kid from Queens who found my community, found my voice, and is an advocate for nature. And I get to do it with a little bit of superhero flair.”
— Mr. Flower Fantastic (nytimes.com)
