At the latest PlayStation State of Play event, Remedy Entertainment presented the first extended gameplay footage of CONTROL Resonant, the sequel to its 2019 title Control. The demo showcased the game's new setting, combat systems, and progression mechanics, including the use of Gravity Anomalies that alter orientation and physics, and the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon that transforms into multiple forms.
Why it matters
The CONTROL series has built a dedicated fan base since the original game's release, and the sequel's new features and gameplay mechanics are likely to generate significant interest among fans of the franchise and action-adventure games in general.
The details
The sequel places players in the role of Dylan Faden, who hunts a powerful Resonant enemy within the West Incursion Zone, a distorted section of Manhattan reshaped by forces that are breaking reality apart. The environment appears more open than the shifting halls of the Federal Bureau of Control seen in the previous game, with large, interconnected zones that include optional activities, hidden encounters, and side objectives designed to encourage exploration. A major gameplay focus is the use of Gravity Anomalies, which alter orientation and physics, allowing Dylan to move across walls and ceilings while engaging enemies in spaces where gravity constantly shifts. Dylan's primary weapon, the Aberrant, is a shapeshifting melee tool that transforms into multiple forms, with additional forms, abilities, and talents unlocked as players progress.
