Clifton Park Chabad is making sure all are able to enjoy a Passover seder meal, whether or not they can afford it. The organization is distributing over 175 Passover meal packages, teaming up with the Shalom Food Pantry in Albany to provide three to five days' worth of groceries to nearly 600 individuals in the Capital Region so everyone can partake in the holiday.
Why it matters
Passover is an important Jewish holiday that involves specific traditional foods, but these foods can be expensive. Clifton Park Chabad's efforts to provide Passover meals to those in need, including seniors living alone, nursing home residents, and others who may not have family nearby, ensures the entire community can celebrate the holiday.
The details
The Passover foods, such as matzah, gefilte fish, matzah ball soup, and kugel, have historical and religious significance, reminding Jews of their exodus from Egypt. However, these foods can be costly, so Clifton Park Chabad decided to step in and help those in the community who may not be able to afford a full Passover seder meal.
- Tonight marks the first night of Passover, the Jewish holiday lasting eight days.
- Clifton Park Chabad has distributed more than 175 meals in the lead-up to the holiday.
