Tesla has informed the Albany building department of its plans to construct a 16-stall electric vehicle charging station on Southeast Pacific Boulevard. The company has already obtained an electrical permit for the project, but still needs to apply for a building permit before moving forward.

Why it matters

As electric vehicle adoption continues to grow, the availability of public charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. This proposed Tesla station would provide a significant boost to the charging options in the Albany area, potentially making it easier for residents and visitors to charge their EVs.

The details

Tesla design engineer Daniel Baba applied for an electrical permit at 3080 Pacific Blvd. S.E. last July, which was issued in November. The address is the location of a Human Bean coffee kiosk in the parking lot between Winco and Burger King. However, no visible signs of the planned charging station were present as of last week. The electrical permit alone cost Tesla $2,917.30 in state and city fees. The company will still need to apply for a building permit before construction can begin.
