Verity, one of Colleen Hoover's best-selling novels, is the author's next project to get a big-screen adaptation, with the film's first trailer arriving at CinemaCon. The footage was unveiled during Amazon's presentation for theater owners and distributors in Las Vegas. Verity centers on struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), who is hired by Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) to complete the remaining books in a series penned by his wife, author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), after she suffers a mysterious accident. Lowen soon learns that a secret unfinished manuscript may reveal clues about the family's past.

Why it matters

Colleen Hoover's novels have become increasingly popular in recent years, with several of her works being adapted for the big screen. The film adaptation of Verity is the latest in a string of Hoover projects to hit theaters, further cementing the author's status as a major force in the literary and entertainment worlds.

The details

The trailer began with Verity appearing on Call Her Daddy in all her glory; cut to Lowen arriving at her and Jeremy's stunning mansion and going through her closet before being brought to meet Verity, as she sits incapacitated in a wheelchair. 'Can she speak? Does she even know what's going on?' Lowen asks Jeremy, as he questions if she would have come if she had known the truth. She begins to go through Verity's notes, which retell the early days of her relationship with Jeremy — and is soon tipped off that something is awry, when she sees Verity seemingly move about normally through a window. 'I feel like I'm losing my mind,' Lowen panics. That's elevated when the two women are sitting in front of each other and Verity suddenly grabs Lowen's face and kisses her, with a smirk as the two pull away. 'You have this perfect life, everything anyone could ever want,' Lowen later says, before declaring, 'and I'm going to take it from you, all of it.'
