Komatsu has introduced the HM460-6 articulated haul truck, a next-generation articulated dump truck designed to help contractors move more material with greater consistency across challenging ground conditions, at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 in Las Vegas. The HM460-6 features a new high-output powertrain, advanced traction control system, and redesigned operator environment based on direct customer feedback.
Why it matters
The HM460-6 is engineered for quarry, construction, mining, and infrastructure operations where variable terrain, soft ground, and haul road conditions limit productivity. The truck's increased payload capacity and improved fuel efficiency aim to deliver a lower cost per tonne while maintaining stable, predictable operation throughout the haul cycle.
The details
The HM460-6 has a higher rated payload capacity of up to 46.3 tons, or 42 tonnes, compared to the 44.2-ton (40.1 t) capacity of the previous HM400-5 model. It is powered by Komatsu's new proprietary DBA127 engine with a two-stage turbocharger system, delivering 518 gross horsepower (386 kW) at 1,700 rpm. The engine is paired with a new nine-speed Komatsu transmission and intelligent gear control. The truck also features the Komatsu Traction Control System, cross-axle differential locks, and a hydro-pneumatic suspension system to maintain traction and stability on soft, uneven, or muddy ground. The redesigned cab offers improved visibility, ergonomics, and operator comfort.
