Two months after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous 'spot' from his left lung, Barry Manilow has shared that he will need to reschedule the first leg of his upcoming arena tour to properly recover. The 82-year-old singer said his doctor informed him that he would not be able to make it through a 90-minute show, despite being in 'great shape' considering his early-stage lung cancer diagnosis.
Why it matters
Manilow's health struggles and decision to prioritize his recovery over touring highlights the challenges faced by aging musicians and performers as they navigate ongoing health issues. His openness about his cancer battle also serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection and treatment for lung cancer.
The details
In a statement shared on Instagram, Manilow explained that after using a treadmill three times a day, he still could not sing more than three songs in a row without having to stop. However, his doctor 'shook his head' and told him he would not 'make it through' a full 90-minute show. As a result, Manilow has had to reschedule the first batch of arena shows from February 27th to March 17th, with the possibility of doing the Las Vegas shows at the end of March and the second batch of arena shows beginning in April.
- In December, Manilow shared that he had been diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer.
- In January, Manilow had to reschedule tour dates due to his health.
- On February 20, 2026, Manilow visited his surgeon and was told he would not be able to perform a 90-minute show.
