Douglas County is continuing work on its Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Action Plan, a comprehensive initiative to improve roadway safety and reduce traffic-related deaths and serious injuries across the county. The plan will guide future policies, programs, and infrastructure investments that make local roads safer for everyone.
Why it matters
The SS4A Action Plan applies the Safe System Approach, which recognizes that people make mistakes and that roadway design and management should prevent those mistakes from resulting in fatalities or serious harm. This plan will use data analysis and public feedback to identify safety challenges and develop evidence-based recommendations to improve mobility and safety countywide.
The details
Developed through community input and supported by a U.S. Department of Transportation grant, the SS4A Action Plan will foster collaboration among local and regional agencies. A public open house is scheduled for March 18, 2026, where community members can learn more and provide feedback to help shape the final recommendations.
- The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners will receive an informational presentation on the plan during its March 5, 2026 meeting.
- The Safe Streets for All Open House will be held on March 18, 2026 from 4 - 6 p.m.
- An online survey is available through March 31, 2026 for residents to provide input.
The players
Douglas County
The local government of Douglas County, Nevada, which is developing the Safe Streets for All Action Plan.
What’s next
When completed later this year, the Safe Streets for All Action Plan will provide a data-driven framework for reducing roadway fatalities and improving mobility options countywide. The finalized plan will also position Douglas County to pursue future state and federal grant opportunities aimed at implementing safety improvements and infrastructure projects identified through this process.
The takeaway
This comprehensive plan demonstrates Douglas County's commitment to improving roadway safety and taking a proactive, community-driven approach to preventing traffic-related deaths and serious injuries. By applying the Safe System Approach, the county aims to create safer streets for all residents and visitors, whether they are walking, biking, driving, or using public transit.
