The #6 ranked Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M opened their Lone Star Conference schedule with a pair of run-rule victories over the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds in Portales, New Mexico. The Lady Buffs won the first game 10-2 in 5 innings and the second game 9-1 in 5 innings, thanks to strong offensive performances and solid pitching.

In the first game, the Lady Buffs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and then broke the game open with a 3-run homer by Howell in the second inning. They added two more runs in the third before Eastern New Mexico scored twice in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Buffs then capped the scoring with a 2-run homer by Howell in the fifth. Pitcher Cannon earned the complete game victory, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits with 9 strikeouts. In the second game, the Lady Buffs again got off to a fast start, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. They added single runs in the third and fourth innings before breaking it open with a 3-run fifth. Eastern New Mexico managed to score 1 run in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough to overcome the Lady Buffs' large lead. Pitcher Colborn earned the win, tossing 4 scoreless innings and allowing just 4 hits.
