The #6 ranked Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M opened their Lone Star Conference schedule with a pair of run-rule victories over the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds in Portales, New Mexico. The Lady Buffs won the first game 10-2 in 5 innings and the second game 9-1 in 5 innings, thanks to strong offensive performances and solid pitching.

In the second game, the Lady Buffs again got off to a fast start, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. They added single runs in the third and fourth innings before breaking it open with a 3-run fifth. Eastern New Mexico managed to score 1 run in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough to overcome the Lady Buffs' large lead. Pitcher Colborn earned the win, tossing 4 scoreless innings and allowing just 4 hits.
