Despite leading 3-2 in the top of the ninth inning, the Northwestern baseball team was unable to close out their game against UIC, resulting in a 3-3 tie due to darkness. The Wildcats struggled with control on the mound, throwing strikes just 53% of the time, and left 8 runners on base throughout the game.

The details
In the top of the ninth inning, Northwestern sophomore left-hander Alex Grant walked the second batter and hit the first batter, loading the bases with just one out. However, Grant was able to recover and force two groundouts to keep the game tied at 3-3. Overall, Northwestern used nine different pitchers in the game, with no pitcher throwing more than two innings. The Wildcats struggled with control, throwing strikes just 53% of the time compared to 66% for UIC. Northwestern also left 8 runners on base, while UIC left 18.
